Singapore's Younger Generation Turns to Professional Matchmaking for Structured Relationships

Read: 2201

Younger singles are increasingly turning to dating agencies in Singapore seeking professional matchmaking services. The rise in demand for such services is attributed to the growing acceptance of matchmaking and a preference among individuals for more selective and reliable ways to meet their potential partners.

Notably, the demographic landscape of these clients has shifted significantly with an unexpected surge in young adults under the age of 25. Over the past two years, dating agency GG - which includes the offline platform Paktor - has observed a steady increase in total sign-ups and inquiries, primarily from individuals aged between 21 to 24.

Ms Sharon Ng, Country Lead at GG, observed this significant change in client demographics. Previously, our youngest clientele was around ages 25 to 27, she sd. In recent years, we have seen a dramatic increase in clients from the younger age bracket of 21 to 24.

Dating agency Lunch Actually is also experiencing similar demographic shifts with its clientele base. Initially focused mnly on singles aged between late twenties to mid-forties, the company now caters more extensively to young adults who are seeking serious relationships.

Ms Violet Lim, CEO and co-founder of Lunch Actually, explned that younger clients are typically looking for committed relationships and considering marriage as a potential future option: The young singles we're seeing mostly desire someone with whom they can get closer to and evaluate if there's compatibility for settling down.

Beyond the change in age demographics, another notable tr is an increase in requests from older adults. The agency has observed a significant number of clients who are divorced or widowed individuals looking for a second chance at love.

Another factor driving demand among young singles, according to Ms Lim, is the seasonal peak period before and during Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day. During these festive seasons, there is typically a noticeable uptick in inquiries and sign-ups as many people begin to contemplate their personal relationships and potential future partners.

One reason for this growing tr could be attributed to online platforms making younger individuals more open to dating options but also leading them towards seeking professional matchmaking due to disappointing experiences on other digital dating platforms. Younger singles are increasingly choosing to work with matchmaking professionals who can professionally curate and organize dates, offering a safer and more structured approach compared to online dating.

According to Ms Elna Low, Senior Relationship Manager at GG: Many prefer the security of knowing that all members have undergone vetting processes by the agency. This helps in creating an environment where potential partners are less likely to be scammed or misrepresented.

For instance, GG's terms and conditions include provisions for terminating a member's contract if their information is found to be inaccurate at any point. This feature significantly enhances safety and trust among members.

In addition to matchmaking services, some agencies offer relationship coaching med at guiding clients through the nuances of dating etiquette and personal grooming. Ms Ng also noted that younger individuals are increasingly planning out their romantic journeys from finding a partner, securing housing like BTO flats Build-to-Order apartments, marriage, and starting a family.

To summarize, while the age demographics of matchmaking clients have become more youthful, their approach to relationships has matured. They seem better prepared for dating with ions in mind - whether it's about finding that special someone or planning ahead for matrimonial and familial futures.
