The selection process involves identifying measures used in previous mentoring evaluations and ensuring they align well with the inted outcome.

For each domn covered - such as mental health, social-emotional skills, behavior patterns, interpersonal relationships, academics, relationship quality, program quality, risk factors, and protective factors - a profile of recommed instruments is provided. This includes detls on:

  1. Purpose: What does the instrument m to measure?

  2. Relevance: Why was this specific tool chosen for mentor programs?

  3. Practicality: How can mentorsadministrators implement it effectively in real-world settings?

  4. Access: Where can one find and use these instruments?

Additionally, alternative measures are suggested for various program contexts, such as different age groups or goals.

In the section on relationship quality, a thorough review of measures used in previous mentoring studies was conducted to select those that best assess internal match quality, particularly focusing on relational aspects. The toolkit also includes advice on administering instruments and integrating them into comprehensive evaluation designs.

Contributions were made by several researchers including Ed Bowers Clemson University, David DuBois University of Illinois at Chicago - Chr, Chris Elledge University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Stephanie Hawkins RTI International, Carla Herrera Indepent Researcher, Enrique Neblett University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Nda Silverthorn, Fasika Alem, and Michael Garringer from MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership.
